Greyscale images with some color in them look great on any desktop or in any portfolio. Creating such an effect is not difficult and it does not take long, but it is much faster and easier with Leaf. This lightweight application is as simple as its name. It converts images to Greyscale, Sepia or it can apply many other effects and it allows you to re-colorize them.

Leaf is distributed as a freeware application, which can be installed in a matter of seconds. It works on Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7 and it provides support for 32 and 64-bit versions. The installed application does not use too much disk space or too many resources, so you can run it even on older machines.

A clean and simple user interface, with a modern design is what you can find when you launch the application. Pictures are converted automatically when you load them. You can decide what effect to apply, before loading your picture, by clicking one of the buttons, on the left edge of the window.

Once you load an image, you can start painting with a brush tool, to restore its original colors, where you want to. The size of the brush can be adjusted with a slider, in the lower region of the interface. When you are done colorizing your image, you can save it on the hard drive, in JPG, BMP, PNG or GIF format or copy it to the clipboard. It is also possible to save images as PDF files.

Pros

The application is very straightforward. It automatically converts your images to Greyscale, Sepia or other colors and it allows you to re-colorize them however you want. It comes with numerous color styles and it allows you to save your work in various formats.

Cons

An eraser or a history brush would make the application more comfortable. Leaf gives you the possibility of turning plain images into impressive artworks in just a few seconds.
